Week Ending 10/6: Joint Expenses

It was sort of business as usual this week on the joint and family side of things. We hosted people for Football-watching, which for once was totally my idea. I had the brilliant idea to make Italian Beef sandwiches (The Bear’s influence looms large), and they are great for a group and delicious. My only, well, beef with this option was how expensive it really was. A big reason the grocery bill was a good $60 higher – even more if you average in the other fixins I got in anticipation of company. And I planned for way more people than actually came! I managed to find other uses for leftovers, even if a lot ended up in my pooch’s food bowl. I’ll still call it a win because it was 1) delicious and 2) cheaper than ordering pizza. We needed more booze for friends too, but that never goes to waste.

I needed postage because I love writing postcards to encourage people to vote, which I do regularly but is especially important in a big election year. While I was grabbing those stamps, I got a roll of regular stamps too – we always need more and holiday card season is right around the corner!

We are also planning a family trip next month out to the Pacific Northwest to visit friends and expose my kids to a new part of the country. It’s annoying that had we bought the tickets a matter of days before, it would have saved us $300-400, but in the end, I expected worse so I’m pleasantly surprised. We are staying with friends for some of the time out there, but it’ll also surely be a big expense so I’m grateful to be spreading it out some. Considering how much of the weekly spend the airfare is, it wasn’t a bad week overall.
