Week ending 1/13: Joint Expenses

Remember that good, settled, semi-smug feeling I was feeling last week? Well, yeah…. That was short-lived. OMG. What a week. I will couch this by saying this is part of a plan to change this grungy not-used porch under our deck and turn it into a nice spot with a hot tub. But my husband can’t FOR ONE SECOND have ANY CHILL OR PATIENCE, so the wheels started moving, meaning the credit card started getting swiped. We get bonuses this time of year, so we tend to do something for our house to improve it annually.

I don’t know… I feel conflicted on this one. It’s so much money, and we’re essentially spending my bonus (which is much, much larger than his) to make it happen, and I didn’t really want it. It will be nice, but I’d be just as happy if not happier just investing the whole nut. Ah well. I get using it so we can enjoy it too. Sorry to ruminate out loud, I’ve been doing a lot of that this past week as the spending as amped up.

Ye Gods this was also a HUGE grocery week. Some of that was restocking on pricer stuff, like supplements and toiletries so it isn’t like a billion loaves of bread or gallons of milk. But I continue to buy generic store brands when I can, go for the markdowns, and it seems to matter less and less. I get that it’s the world we live in, inflation was low for a long time, so this feels rapid, blah, blah. But I also understand how average Americans, who make much less, are feeling super pinched and frustrated about it.
